Amazon Web Services (AWS) has formed a new organization for the development of agentic artificial intelligence (AI). Swami Sivasubramanian, the vice president who was in charge of AWS's database, analytics, and AI services, will lead this new organization. Vice President Sivasubramanian stated that agentic AI systems offer possibilities beyond current chatbots and will be able to solve complex problems with human-like reasoning. He projected that this technology would greatly improve organizational efficiency. Amazon claimed that it has already been automating application modernization internally through its Q service, saving up to 4,500 years of developer time. This move appears to be a response to competitors like Microsoft and Google announcing similar AI agent services. AWS CEO Matt Garman mentioned that agentic AI could become a multi-billion dollar business for AWS. The new organization is expected to include vice presidents Asa Kalavade, Dilip Kumar, and Deepak Singh, and will focus on developing powerful, efficient, and trustworthy AI agents.
