Amazon’s corporate workforce is expected to shrink over the next few years as the company expands its adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI). In a recent internal memo, CEO Andy Jassy stated, “As AI tools and agents become more widespread, some existing jobs will require fewer people, and new types of roles will emerge. Overall, we expect a reduction in our corporate workforce.” Jassy urged employees to learn how to use AI tools and actively seek ways to achieve more with smaller teams. Since 2022, Amazon has laid off more than 27,000 employees and has implemented additional restructuring this year in its North America stores and devices divisions. Currently, Amazon has 1.56 million employees worldwide. The company is broadly applying generative AI to various internal operations, including logistics, inventory management, and robotics.
