Apple may incorporate Google’s AI model Gemini into its major Siri overhaul, which has been delayed until 2026. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple and Google reached a formal agreement this week to begin testing Google’s AI within Siri. Apple has concluded that its own AI models alone may not be sufficient to compete with the answer engines from OpenAI, Perplexity, and Google. If the integration proves successful, the technology could also extend to other areas of the iPhone, including the Safari browser and the Spotlight search feature. The revamped search experience is expected to combine text, images, videos, and local information, along with an AI-powered summarization feature. It could also leverage users’ personal data to allow full device navigation through voice commands.

애플이 2026년으로 연기된 시리(Siri) 대규모 업그레이드에 구글의 AI 모델 ‘제미나이(Gemini)’를 도입할 가능성이 제기됐다. 블룸버그 보도에 따르면 애플과 구글은 이번 주 정식 합의를 통해 시리에 구글 AI를 시험 적용하기로 했다. 애플은 자사 AI 모델만으로는 오픈AI, 퍼플렉시티, 구글 등 경쟁사의 답변형 AI 엔진과 맞서기 어렵다는 판단을 내려왔다. 만약 도입이 성공한다면, 사파리 브라우저나 아이폰 기본 검색 기능 ‘스포트라이트’에도 이 기술이 적용될 수 있다. 새로운 검색 경험은 텍스트, 이미지, 영상, 지역 정보를 결합하고 AI 기반 요약 기능도 포함할 예정이다. 또 사용자의 개인 데이터를 활용해 음성만으로 기기 탐색이 가능하도록 하는 방안도 논의되고 있다.
