Apple is planning to add live translation to AirPods, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This feature will allow users to translate conversations in real-time and will be linked to the upcoming iOS 19. For example, when translating Spanish to English, the translated content plays in the English speaker's AirPods, and when they respond, the Spanish translation plays through the iPhone's speakers. Apple is somewhat late in adopting this technology, as Google added live translation to its first Pixel Buds in 2017 and expanded it to Pixel Buds Pro in 2022. Other companies like Meta and Humane have also attempted live translation with their wearable devices, though results have been inconsistent. Last week, Apple announced a delay in the release of its AI-enhanced Siri, stating that "it's going to take longer than we thought to deliver on these features." According to Gurman, Apple also plans to completely overhaul the design of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS this year.
