Epic Games has asked the court to issue an order forcing Apple to reinstate Fortnite on the Apple App Store. In documents submitted to a U.S. court, Epic argued that Apple must accept a compliant version of Fortnite on the U.S. App Store. Epic and Apple have been engaged in a years-long legal battle over App Store policies related to in-app purchase fees. Last month, a judge ruled that Apple had willfully violated anti-competitive pricing policies, opening the door for Fortnite’s possible return to the App Store. However, Apple appealed the ruling, and Epic stated that Apple is blocking Fortnite’s release both on the U.S. App Store and on the Epic Games Store in Europe. Apple explained that outside the U.S., it requested Epic to resubmit the app update without including the U.S. App Store to avoid service interruption. Epic criticized Apple for deliberately delaying Fortnite’s reinstatement until the court’s final ruling, arguing that this action undermines pro-competitive rules and acts as a “punishment” that sends a warning to other developers.
