U.K. cloud startup Nscale has quickly emerged as a new force in the AI infrastructure market, forming partnerships with Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia. Spun off from cryptocurrency mining firm Arkon Energy, Nscale raised a $155 million Series A round late last year and has since secured around $700 million in additional funding, including from Nvidia. Microsoft is working with Nscale to build a large-scale supercomputer in Essex, while OpenAI has tapped the company as a partner for its “Stargate” data center project in Norway. Nvidia has also backed Nscale with a £500 million equity investment. The company aims to operate up to 350,000 GPUs by 2027, positioning itself to fill Europe’s AI compute infrastructure gap and to become a key player in the continent’s “sovereign AI” strategy.
