OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle officially announced the $500 billion "Stargate Project" for AI infrastructure development in the U.S. at a White House briefing attended by President Donald Trump. The three companies plan to initially invest $100 billion and scale up to $500 billion over the next four years. The first data center under construction in Abilene, Texas, is already partially operational with NVIDIA GB200 racks being installed. OpenAI announced an additional partnership with Oracle to secure 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity, bringing total Stargate AI infrastructure to over 5 gigawatts. SoftBank's Masayoshi Son will serve as Stargate chairman, with SoftBank handling financial responsibility and OpenAI managing operations. The project aims to create over 100,000 American jobs and secure U.S. leadership in the AI competition against China. However, Elon Musk questioned the project's funding capability, stating "They don't actually have the money."
