OpenAI has officially distanced itself from the "OpenAI tokens" launched by Robinhood. OpenAI stated, "We have never partnered with Robinhood nor approved any equity transfer," adding, "These tokens are not actual equity in OpenAI." Recently, Robinhood unveiled tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX for European users at an event in Cannes, France. Following the announcement, Robinhood’s stock price surpassed $100, reaching an all-time high. The company also ran a promotion offering 5 euros worth of OpenAI and SpaceX tokens to EU users who signed up to trade stock tokens by July 7. OpenAI reiterated that "any transfer of equity requires our explicit approval, and no such approval was given for this token issuance." Robinhood explained that the tokens provide indirect access to private equity, but U.S. users are excluded from participation due to regulatory restrictions.
