OpenAI has decided to gradually end its partnership with data provider Scale AI. OpenAI had already been reducing its reliance on Scale AI even before Meta’s official announcement, reportedly seeking new partners capable of providing more specialized data for the development of advanced AI models. This decision is raising uncertainty about Scale AI’s core data labeling business. Meanwhile, Google is also reportedly considering ending its data provision agreement with Scale AI. Since Meta’s deal, there has been a growing trend among AI model developers to seek “neutral” data partners. Scale AI has stated that it will not provide preferential treatment to Meta or share confidential information from other clients. However, major customers continue to show signs of leaving the company. In response, Scale AI announced that it will focus on building custom AI applications for governments and enterprises.
