WordPress has introduced a new AI development tool called Telex, aiming to drive innovation in applications. Matt Mullenweg, WordPress co-founder and CEO of Automattic, described the tool as “a V0 or Lovable, but specifically for WordPress” during its demonstration at the WordCamp US 2025 conference. Telex enables users to generate Gutenberg blocks — modular components such as text, images, and columns — simply by entering a prompt. The output is provided as a plug-in in .zip format, installable on WordPress sites. The service is currently labeled as experimental and is available at telex.automattic.ai. While early tests showed that some projects failed to function properly, Mullenweg stressed that AI has strong potential to advance WordPress’ mission of “democratizing publishing.” Alongside Telex, he also previewed a browser-based WordPress help assistant and highlighted his favorite AI browser, Perplexity’s Comet, which allows users to interact with WordPress directly. Meanwhile, Automattic remains engaged in an ongoing trademark dispute with WP Engine over what Mullenweg describes as insufficient contributions back to the WordPress project despite benefiting from it. He briefly commented, “The legal process is underway, and we trust in the fairness of the courts.”
