Elon Musk-led social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has stated that it received an order from the Indian government to block 2,355 accounts, including those belonging to Reuters. India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology demanded immediate action within one hour, without providing any justification, and required the accounts to remain blocked until further notice. The main Reuters account and ReutersWorld were actually blocked for users in India on Saturday, but were restored on Sunday. The Indian government’s Press Information Bureau denied issuing any blocking order and said it was working with X to resolve the issue. This incident is part of an ongoing legal dispute between X and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government over online censorship. In March, X filed a lawsuit against India’s IT ministry, accusing it of abusing its censorship powers to more easily remove content from the platform.

X는 지난 3월 인도 IT부를 상대로 온라인 검열 권한 남용을 이유로 소송을 제기한 바 있다.
