Intel plans to lay off 529 employees at four facilities in Aloha and Hillsboro, Oregon, as part of its restructuring efforts. The layoffs will begin on July 15. Recently, Intel also reduced its workforce by more than 100 positions in Santa Clara, California. News of these job cuts, combined with expectations for a turnaround under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan and the possibility of selling certain business units, led Intel’s stock to surge by more than 7%. However, the company’s share price has declined by about one-third over the past year. Meanwhile, Bloomberg has reported that Intel could ultimately cut over 20% of its global workforce. As of the end of last year, Intel employed more than 100,000 people worldwide.
