Zoom announced a major update at its annual “Zoomtopia” conference, introducing an AI notetaker, photorealistic avatars, and meeting scheduling features. With this update, Zoom’s AI Companion can now work across external platforms such as Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and can also take notes during in-person meetings. New features include the ability for AI to organize user-written notes, cross-platform search across Google and Microsoft services, and meeting recommendations that fit all participants’ schedules. The update also adds suggested tasks and agenda items for meeting preparation, as well as a group AI assistant function. Zoom plans to roll out photorealistic avatars later this year that can replicate a user’s actions on video, though concerns about potential deepfake misuse have been raised. Additional updates include Zoom Clips (its asynchronous video tool), avatars that greet participants in waiting rooms, live translation, AI-powered email and document drafting assistance, and a new tool for managing video assets.
