In the second quarter of last year, the GMC Hummer EV outsold the Tesla Cybertruck in the U.S. market. According to data from Cox Automotive, 4,508 Hummers were sold compared to 4,306 Cybertrucks. Both models ranked second and third respectively, behind Ford’s F-150 Lightning. The Cybertruck’s sales surged to about 17,000 units in the third quarter of 2024 but then sharply declined. Price increases and controversies surrounding Elon Musk have been cited as reasons for the drop in sales. Meanwhile, Rivian’s R1T has also seen a significant decrease in sales, intensifying competition in the electric truck market. Contrary to initial expectations, a substantial portion of Tesla’s production capacity at its Texas factory remains unused.
