OpenAI has canceled the release of its next AI model, 'o3,' opting instead to integrate it into GPT-5. CEO Sam Altman announced on X that GPT-5 will incorporate various OpenAI technologies and be deployed in ChatGPT and API. As a result, o3 will no longer be released as a standalone model. OpenAI initially planned to launch o3 in early 2024, with recent estimates pointing to a February-March release. Altman stated that OpenAI aims to simplify its product offerings and remove the model picker in ChatGPT. GPT-5 will be available with unlimited chat access at a standard intelligence level, while paid subscribers will access higher intelligence tiers. The model will integrate features like voice, canvas, search, and deep research for improved reasoning capabilities. Before GPT-5, OpenAI plans to launch GPT-4.5, codenamed 'Orion,' in the coming weeks. China's DeepSeek recently gained attention with its R1 model, challenging OpenAI's lead, prompting OpenAI to accelerate its release schedule.
