Coinbase has unveiled the ‘Base App’ to replace the existing Coinbase Wallet. This app is an all-in-one platform that integrates wallet, trading, and payment functions along with social media, messaging, and support for mini apps. The Base App operates on Coinbase’s self-developed public blockchain called ‘Base,’ and transactions are processed using the stablecoin USDC. Through this app, Coinbase aims to attract a new group of consumers who are not necessarily interested in cryptocurrency trading and to expand practical uses of crypto beyond speculative trading. The company also introduced ‘Base Pay,’ a one-click payment service based on USDC that supports payments both online and in physical stores, offering cashback benefits to Shopify users. Coinbase has also implemented various support measures to expand its user base on the chain, including creator rewards and waiving USDC transaction fees. CEO Brian Armstrong stated his goal to make USDC the world’s leading stablecoin and to establish Coinbase as the top global financial app.
