Former U.S. President Donald Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, has begun the process of launching a spot Bitcoin ETF. NYSE Arca, the ETF arm of the New York Stock Exchange, recently filed a Form 19b-4 with U.S. regulators to list the "Truth Social Bitcoin ETF" in partnership with Trump Media. The proposed ETF is designed to track the price of Bitcoin, allowing investors to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency without having to hold the asset directly. Previously, Trump Media announced a collaboration with Crypto.com to introduce a range of digital asset products, including cryptocurrency baskets and ETFs. Trump Media is accelerating its entry into the crypto market, having recently unveiled a $2.5 billion Bitcoin treasury plan. Since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024, the market has grown to over $130 billion in assets, with BlackRock’s IBIT accounting for approximately $69 billion—the largest share in the sector. If approved, the Truth Social Bitcoin ETF would mark the first ETF issuer directly tied to a major political figure, signaling a new level of political connection in the cryptocurrency investment space.
