Former President Donald Trump claimed that iPhone production could be moved to the United States. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that Apple invested $500 billion because it believed manufacturing in the U.S. was feasible. However, experts remain skeptical about this assertion. Analysts argue that Apple’s investment plan does not significantly differ from its expected expenditures. Moreover, both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook have long stated that manufacturing iPhones in the U.S. would be difficult. In meetings with former President Barack Obama in 2010 and 2011, Jobs pointed out that the U.S. lacked 30,000 skilled engineers needed to operate a factory. In contrast, China currently employs more than 700,000 workers for iPhone assembly. Tim Cook has also maintained that U.S.-based iPhone production is unrealistic, reiterating the issue at the 2017 Fortune Global Forum.
