U.S. President Donald Trump has once again postponed the ban on TikTok in the United States. On the 18th (local time), the White House announced that President Trump would sign an executive order to extend the deadline for TikTok’s sale by an additional 90 days. This marks the third time President Trump has delayed the decision to ban TikTok since taking office. President Trump stated that he “does not want TikTok to disappear from the United States,” adding that “during the extension period, the administration will focus on finalizing a deal so that Americans can continue to use TikTok with confidence in their data security.” The U.S. government is still negotiating with China to allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S., but there has been little progress since the deadline was last extended in April. While several companies are interested in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. business, approval from the Chinese government remains a key variable. Previously, in April, there were strong discussions about U.S. investors transferring their stakes to a new entity, but negotiations have stalled due to the Trump administration’s tariffs on Chinese imports.
