Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group’s electric air taxi startup, has temporarily halted its aircraft development program amid management turmoil following the departures of its CEO and CTO and staff cuts. The company conducted its first technology demonstrator flight earlier this year, but activities stopped before full-scale operations could begin. Supernal is now reassessing its project timeline after CEO Jaiwon Shin and CTO David McBride both left the company. In recent years, Supernal has also withdrawn its newly established headquarters and implemented large-scale layoffs amid industry-wide restructuring. Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to recruit new leadership with expertise in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) to strengthen its growth strategy moving forward.
현대차그룹 산하 전기 에어택시 스타트업 슈퍼널이 CEO와 CTO 퇴진, 인력 감축 등 경영 혼란 속에 항공기 개발 프로그램을 잠정 중단했다. 슈퍼널은 올해 첫 기술 실증기 시험비행을 실시했으나, 본격적인 비행 전 운영이 멈춘 것으로 확인됐다. 슈퍼널은 CEO 신재원, CTO 데이비드 맥브라이드의 동시 퇴진 이후 사업 일정을 전면 재검토하고 있다. 최근 몇 년간 업계를 강타한 구조조정 바람 속에 슈퍼널도 신설 본사 철수 및 대규모 감원이 이어졌다. 현대차그룹은 도심항공모빌리티(UAM) 강화 및 성장 전략을 위해 신임 경영진 영입을 추진할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
