The largest-ever password leak has occurred. Cybersecurity researchers have recently confirmed that as many as 16 billion login credentials have been exposed on the dark web and other sources. The leaked data reportedly includes login information for major global IT companies such as Apple, Facebook, and Google. According to the researchers, the data was found across 30 massive datasets, each containing tens of millions to as many as 3.5 billion records. Most of the data is structured in the form of URLs, login IDs, and passwords, and includes account information for a wide range of online services such as social media, VPNs, developer portals, and various government services. Notably, unlike previously known breaches, most of this leaked information appears to be newly exposed. The researchers believe that the incident was caused by multiple infostealer malware attacks. Experts warn that this data could be exploited for phishing, account takeovers, and other cyberattacks, urging the public to exercise extreme caution.
