Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reportedly been invited to the Saudi-U.S. investment forum set to take place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The forum is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, coinciding with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East. According to planning documents obtained by Reuters, the event is expected to be attended by CEOs of major global corporations such as BlackRock, Citigroup, IBM, Boeing, and leading airlines. Musk is also among the invitees. As the head of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, Musk has maintained close ties with the Trump administration through his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has seen notable improvement since the start of Trump’s second term. In April, Tesla officially launched its operations in the Saudi market, where the company showcased key products including the Cybertruck, the autonomous robotaxi "Cybercab," and the humanoid robot "Optimus." Additionally, Musk appears to have reconciled with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), with which relations had soured after his controversial "funding secured" tweet in 2018. At the time, Musk clashed with PIF chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan, leading the fund to sell off its Tesla shares and invest in rival EV maker Lucid Motors.
테슬라 CEO 일론 머스크가 사우디아라비아 수도 리야드에서 열리는 사우디-미국 투자 포럼에 초청된 것으로 알려졌다. 이번 포럼은 도널드 트럼프 전 미국 대통령의 중동 방문 일정에 맞춰 오는 화요일 개최될 예정이다. 로이터통신이 입수한 회의 자료에 따르면, 이번 행사에는 블랙록, 씨티그룹, IBM, 보잉, 주요 항공사 등 글로벌 대기업 CEO들이 참석할 예정이며, 머스크 역시 초청 대상자에 포함됐다. 머스크는 테슬라, 스페이스X, xAI를 이끄는 인물로, 미국 정부 효율성 부서(DOGE) 활동을 통해 트럼프 행정부와 긴밀한 관계를 유지해왔다. 머스크와 사우디 간 관계는 트럼프의 두 번째 임기 시작 이후 뚜렷한 개선세를 보였다. 지난 4월 테슬라는 사우디 시장에 공식 진출했으며, 해당 출시 행사에서는 사이버트럭, 자율주행 로보택시 ‘사이버캡’, 휴머노이드 로봇 ‘옵티머스’ 등이 공개됐다. 이와 함께, 2018년 머스크의 '자금 확보됨(funding secured)' 트윗 사건 이후 냉각됐던 사우디 국부펀드(PIF)와의 관계도 복원된 것으로 보인다. 해당 사건 당시 머스크는 PIF 수장 야시르 알 루마얀과 갈등을 빚었으며, 이후 PIF는 테슬라 지분을 처분하고 루시드 모터스에 투자한 바 있다.
