Microsoft is reportedly set to carry out a round of layoffs affecting approximately 3 percent of its global workforce. The number of employees affected is expected to reach around 7,000. The job cuts are seen as part of the company’s broader efforts to boost organizational efficiency and invest heavily in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The company previously stated that it is “streamlining organizational layers by reducing the number of managers to increase agility.” The layoffs will span across all levels, teams, and regions. As of June last year, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 people worldwide. This move comes amid global economic uncertainty and concerns over potential tariffs on hardware products such as PCs. Microsoft is also approaching the official end of support for Windows 10 in October, which is expected to drive enterprise demand for upgrades to Windows 11.
