The issue was corrected on May 15, and the company revealed that the chatbot had been prompted to question mainstream historical narratives without proper oversight. Just days earlier, Grok also faced criticism for repeatedly referencing the far-right conspiracy theory of “white genocide” in South Africa. The claim, which Musk himself endorsed earlier this year, reportedly influenced former President Donald Trump’s recent decision to grant asylum to white South Africans.
