Microsoft is offering free Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 ahead of its end of support. However, users must enable the Windows Backup feature to sync their settings and folders to the cloud. Windows Backup is based on OneDrive, and if users exceed the free storage limit of 5GB, additional charges may apply. In addition, users can receive ESU by either paying $30 per year or redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points. Microsoft plans to introduce an ESU enrollment wizard in Windows 10 starting in July, which will guide users through these three options. Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 will be available until October 13, 2026. Business customers can purchase up to three years of additional security updates. Meanwhile, ESU will be provided free of charge to Windows 10 devices accessing Windows 11 Cloud PCs through Windows 365 or virtual machines. Microsoft is actively encouraging Windows 10 users to upgrade, and more notifications about the end of support are expected in the coming months.
