Tesla's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems provide driver assistance but are not fully autonomous. Although Tesla has warned drivers to be prepared to immediately take over driving at any time, The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating other statements made by Tesla and its chief executive, Elon Musk, that its vehicles can drive themselves. According to Reuters, prosecutors are investigating whether Tesla committed fraud under the Telecommunications Act by misleading consumers about the driver assistance system, while the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is looking into how it described the driver assistance system to investors.
