The Chinese government has reaffirmed its stance that any sale of TikTok must comply with Chinese law. On the 10th (local time), China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “all transactions must follow Chinese law” in response to U.S. pressure regarding the sale of TikTok. This statement is seen as a reaction to U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to extend the deadline for TikTok’s sale by 75 days. Previously, the U.S. government pushed for a plan to spin off TikTok’s U.S. operations, but negotiations were put on hold, leading to an extension of the sale deadline. The Chinese government had previously hinted that it might not approve any TikTok-related transactions following former President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement.
