Competition among AWS, Microsoft, and Google Cloud intensified in the cloud market during the fourth quarter of 2024. Microsoft achieved the highest operating income among the three companies. According to Synergy Research Group, generative AI has been a major growth driver since the launch of ChatGPT, contributing to over half of the revenue increase in cloud services. For the entire year of 2024, global cloud infrastructure service revenues totaled approximately $330 billion, up $60 billion from 2023. Each company’s cloud earnings were based on their flagship platforms. AWS reported revenues from computing and storage services, Google Cloud included GCP and Workspace in its results, and Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud segment encompassed Azure alongside other server products. The competition for market share and innovation in AI-driven cloud technologies is expected to persist as these companies continue to expand their offerings.
