Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to invest over $20 billion to expand its data centers and AI infrastructure in Pennsylvania. This investment follows Amazon’s acquisition of a data center near a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania last year. AWS has secured sites for new data center campuses in Salem Township and Falls Township, with additional locations under consideration. The investment is expected to create 1,250 high-skilled jobs and thousands more in the related supply chain. Amazon plans to spend $100 billion on AI infrastructure this year alone and already invested $26.3 billion in infrastructure during the fourth quarter of last year. The company views AI as a key driver for its future cloud business. Meanwhile, Amazon recently announced a $10 billion investment in data center infrastructure in North Carolina. Competitors like Google and Microsoft are also investing tens of billions of dollars to expand their data center and AI infrastructure.
