Following AI announcements from Google and OpenAI, Microsoft has revealed details of two "deep reasoning" agents for Microsoft 365 Copilot—Researcher and Analyst—which it claims are the first of their kind. Researcher leverages OpenAI's deep research AI model to perform complex, multi-step research and connects to third-party data sources like Salesforce or ServiceNow, enabling business customers to derive comprehensive insights across their tools. Analyst, based on OpenAI's o3-mini reasoning model, can transform raw data into spreadsheets, run Python code with visible execution, and produce reports at the level of a skilled data scientist. These tools are scheduled to roll out in April to Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders through an early access program, alongside new autonomous agent capabilities in Copilot Studio that aim to automate various workflow scenarios.
