SpaceX has officially announced the cause of the Starship explosion that occurred last month. The company stated on the 25th (local time) that a series of events caused by propellant leaks led to the explosion. During the incident, Starship encountered problems about 2 minutes after launch. A flash was observed near the Raptor engine in the aft section of the vehicle, followed by detection of pressure increase and propellant leakage. The leaked propellant caused sustained fires, which resulted in the shutdown of most engines and loss of communication. SpaceX explained that vibrations exceeding expectations likely caused excessive stress on the propulsion system, leading to the leak. The company stated that it has taken measures to address this issue, including improvements to fuel supply lines, adjustments to propellant temperature, and reinforcement of the ventilation system. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet concluded its accident investigation. SpaceX is waiting for the FAA to either close the investigation or grant special approval, and plans to conduct its 8th test flight as early as this Friday.
