우리 기업 포스코가 참여한 음속으로 튜브 속을 달리는 하이퍼루프 테스트 트랙이 네덜란드에서 개통됐다. 그동안 하이퍼루프는 ‘꿈의 기술’로 불리며 미래형 열차로 주목받았으나, 미국 기술의 실패로 좌절을 겪기도 했다. 그러나 유럽에서 가장 긴 하이퍼루프 테스트 트랙이 개통되면서 자기부상 기술과 진공관 운송 기술이 만난 ‘미래열차’의 실현이 가까워졌다.

저렴한 중국산 전기차의 공포스런 시장확장이 이어지자 전세계 자동차 강자들이 제조단가 낮추기에 안간힘을 쏟고 있다. 세계최대 배터리 제조업체 CATL과 BYD를 비롯한 수많은 전기차 강자를 보유한 중국이 고품질 저가 전기차 출시로 세계 전기차 시장의 60%를 차지하며 누비고 있다. 이같은 압박에 위기를 느낀 유럽 및 미국의 기존 자동차 제조 강자들이 대응책 마련에 속도를 내고 있다. 핵심은 효율을 높이고 가격은 낮춘 최첨단 전기차 부품 공급사들과 제휴하고 이를 제조 공정에 적용하는 것이다.
