Nintendo's foray into film is expected to move forward in earnest. Nintendo has announced that it is working on a live-action adaptation of "The Legend of Zelda." In addition, Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto will participate as a producer, as he did in this year's animated "Super Mario Bros." Although many details about the film itself have not been revealed, Nintendo said it will co-finance the film with Sony, bearing more than 50% of the cost.

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood will open on February 17, 2023. It will be the most immersive and significant new addition to the Los Angeles theme park since the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in April 2016. At the heart of the 360-degree themed area on the Lower Lot area will be Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride, inspired by the iconic Mario Kart games.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to Breath of the Wild. The game will be released on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. It will be the first Zelda game to be released for the Switch since the Wii U's launch in 2009.

Nintendo says chip shortage contributed to 23 percent decline in Switch sales. Sales of the standard Nintendo Switch were down 60 percent to 1.32 million units in the quarter. The Switch OLED, which only went on sale last October, made up some of the shortfall. The company still expects to sell 21 million consoles throughout the course of its year ending March 2023.
