저렴한 중국산 전기차의 공포스런 시장확장이 이어지자 전세계 자동차 강자들이 제조단가 낮추기에 안간힘을 쏟고 있다. 세계최대 배터리 제조업체 CATL과 BYD를 비롯한 수많은 전기차 강자를 보유한 중국이 고품질 저가 전기차 출시로 세계 전기차 시장의 60%를 차지하며 누비고 있다. 이같은 압박에 위기를 느낀 유럽 및 미국의 기존 자동차 제조 강자들이 대응책 마련에 속도를 내고 있다. 핵심은 효율을 높이고 가격은 낮춘 최첨단 전기차 부품 공급사들과 제휴하고 이를 제조 공정에 적용하는 것이다.

Renault and Google are partnering to develop a "software-defined" vehicle. The two companies will use artificial intelligence to create a "digital twin" of a new vehicle. Renault will use data analytics to detect and resolve failures in how the vehicle functions. The companies said the deal will help Renault develop new onboard and offboard applications.

The design for Renault’s Scenic Vision incorporates a hydrogen engine, electric motor, battery, fuel cell and a hydrogen tank. The 2.5 kilogram tank is located at the vehicle’s front. Renault says it will take around five minutes to fill. French carmaker says the Scenic Vision’s 40 kilowatt hour battery is recyclable and will be produced at a facility in France by 2024.
