위성 발사업체 버진오르빗, 운영 중단… "임무 실패"

Virgin Orbit, a subsidiary of Virgin Galactic, the low-orbit space travel company founded by Richard Branson of the UK's Virgin Group, has announced that it will cease operations and sell its assets. Virgin Orbit was listed on the NASDAQ through a merger with a SPAC (special purpose acquisition company), but it failed to attract investors and ran into funding difficulties. Eventually, Virgin Orbit was unable to raise the $382 million (approximately KRW 500 billion) it had targeted, leading to bankruptcy. The company said it would sell its assets to three companies, including aerospace manufacturer Rocket Lab and aerospace firm Stratonics.
