Foxconn has signed a lease with Saigon-Bac Giang Industrial Park Corp to occupy a plot of 45 hectares (111 acres) for around US$62.5 million. The Taiwanese giant is pushing ahead with efforts to shift more production away from mainland China. Foxconn signed a US$300 million agreement with a Vietnamese developer last August to build a new factory in Bac Giang.

‘리엔기프트’는 이달부터 본격적인 운영에 돌입했다. 2년가까이 우여곡절을 겪으며 초기 스타트업으로서 혹독한 ‘데스밸리 (Death Valley)’를 경험한 페이얍은 다시금 새로운 도전을 위한 닻을 올린 셈이다. 마루180에서 만난 허경석 페이얍 대표는 지난 시간들을 “눈물이 날 정도로 힘겨운 시간이었다”고 돌이키며 “그럼에도 불구하고 시스템을 비롯해 셀러(판매자) 사이드도 구축돼 있고, 운영적으로 현지화를 완벽하게 했다”고 자신감을 내비쳤다.

중국의 ‘제로 코로나’ 정책에 지친 애플이 '탈 중국' 속도를 가속화하는 것으로 알려졌다. 중국을 공급망에서 배제하려는 미국의 움직임과 맞물려 중국 내 생산기지를 인도와 베트남으로 이동한다는 포석이다. 월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 3일(현지시간) 애플이 대만 폭스콘 등 협력업체에 “다른 아시아 국가에서 생산을 늘려 달라는 입장을 전달했다”고 보도했다.

The company has dealt with supply chain disruptions because of Covid-lockdowns in China, so it has been looking to expand production elsewhere.
