Bitcoin steadied on Tuesday after earlier hitting a new 18-month low, as major crypto lender Celsius Network's freezing of withdrawals and the prospect of sharp U.S. interest rate rises shook the volatile asset class. Bitcoin clawed its way to positive territory after much as 7.3% overnight to $20,816, its lowest since Dec. 2020. It was last hovering around $22,470. The world's largest cryptocurrency fell 15% on Monday, its sharpest one-day drop since March 2020. It has shed about half its value this year and over 20% since Friday alone. Since its record high of $69,000 in November, it has slumped nearly 70%.

Block Inc. is looking to bypass Web3 entirely and focus on a new Bitcoin-centric model for identity management. Block subsidiary TBD has announced plans to build a new decentralized web centered around Bitcoin (BTC), underscoring founder Jack Dorsey’s belief that the largest blockchain network will play a major role in the internet’s evolution. The new project, called “Web5,” represents the latest Bitcoin-centric endeavor to be pursued by Dorsey since stepping down as CEO of Twitter in November 2021.

Binance Holdings Ltd. is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The firm is being probed for selling digital tokens just as the crypto exchange was getting off the ground. The BNB token is now the world's fifth-biggest. Binance says it will continue to meet all requirements set by regulators.

미국 뉴욕주 의회가 암호화폐 비트코인 채굴을 금지하는 법안을 통과시켰다. 비트코인 등 작업증명(PoW) 방식의 암호화폐 채굴 산업이 불필요한 에너지 소모를 발생시키는 산업이라는 비판에 따른 조치다. 법안이 시행되면 뉴욕주는 블록체인 기술 인프라를 금지하는 미국 최초의 주가 된다.

Those who invested in cryptocurrency are better off than those who spend or send it, suggesting that most crypto holders don’t use it as speculation.

Bitcoin drops below $30,000 for the second time this week. New inflation data spooked investors, leading them to exit risk assets including crypto. Analysts have called $30k a key level for the largest cryptocurrency by market cap. This time last week bitcoin hit a recent high of $40,000.
