Shares of U.S. hydrogen vehicle specialist Nicola surged more than 32% after its new CEO spoke to investors and said the company could soon launch a hydrogen-powered truck. Nicola closed at $1.15 on the New York Stock Exchange, up 32.24% from the previous trading day. Steve Girsky, the company's recently named new CEO, spoke to investors today and fielded questions on issues ranging from the massive recall of the company's electric trucks to the upcoming hydrogen truck. Speaking to investors today, Guskey said that the hydrogen-powered truck has completed final testing and will be released soon.

European Union strikes deal on law to effectively ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. Carmakers must achieve a 100% cut in CO2 emissions by 2035, which would make it impossible to sell new fossil fuel-powered vehicles in the 27-country bloc. Deal also includes a 55% cut for new cars sold from 2030 versus 2021 levels, much higher than existing target of 37.5% reduction.

Toyota is developing a portable hydrogen cartridge prototype. It would be able to be filled up at a facility, transported and returned. The cartridges would be relatively small at 16 inches long, 7 inches in diameter and about 11 pounds in weight. They could be useful for "mobility [i.e. hydrogen cars], household applications, and many future possibilities"

The design for Renault’s Scenic Vision incorporates a hydrogen engine, electric motor, battery, fuel cell and a hydrogen tank. The 2.5 kilogram tank is located at the vehicle’s front. Renault says it will take around five minutes to fill. French carmaker says the Scenic Vision’s 40 kilowatt hour battery is recyclable and will be produced at a facility in France by 2024.
