현재 세계에서 가장 깃발을 날리는 인공위성 인터넷 서비스 회사는 스타링크를 구축한 일론 머스크의 스페이스X다. 인터넷 서비스 속도 테스트 회사 우클라(Ookla)의 최근 분석 결과에 따르면 스페이스X의 서비스가 가장 빠르다. 심지어 대다수 유럽 국가의 유선 광대역 인터넷 다운로드 속도보다도 더 앞선다. 하지만 안심하기엔 이르다. 스페이스X의 위성 인터넷 패권 독점을 저지하려는 강력한 후발 6개 주자들의 추격이 만만치 않다.

FCC가 고속으로 이동하는 항공기와 선박, 트럭 등 이동 차량을 대상으로 한 스타링크 위성 인터넷 서비스 사용을 승인했다. 스타링크는 전 세계 32개국 약 40만명 이상의 가입자를 확보하고 있다. 이번 이동 서비스 승인을 통해 더 다양한 계층의 사용자를 확보할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
