나사가 달기지 베이스캠프를 세우고 2030년에 선보이기 시작할 계획을 세웠다는 달 식민지는 언제쯤 어떤 모습을 보이게 될까. 전문가들이 생각하는 지금까지의 달표면의 인간 거주지는 3D프린터로 만든 집이었다. 이번 발견은 이제 달에 흩어져 있는 동굴들을 활용한 다양한 건설 가능성을 추가했다는 점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다. 그동안 과학자들이 달표면에서 발견한 구덩이는 200개 정도나 된다고 한다. 달에서의 의복은 기존 우주인들이 입는 거추장스런 우주복이지만 프라다 같은 유명 패션회사가 참여해 만든 우주복을 입게 되리라고 한다. 먹는 것은 달 토양에서 기른 식물과 지금 지구에서 한창연구중인 실험실 배양육이 될 것이다.

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, designed to take the agency's astronauts to the moon, is running over budget and launching much later than originally planned. "We anticipate additional cost and schedule growth that could jeopardize the entire Artemis mission if these issues are not addressed," NASA's inspector general said. Spending on NASA's Artemis lunar exploration program is expected to reach $93 billion by 2025, This reportedly includes the $23.8 billion already spent on the SLS system through 2022.

The Space Launch System rocket took off at 1:47am ET from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The SLS carried its Orion capsule to an altitude of just under 4,000 kilometers before the two craft separated. Orion will continue onward to the Moon, which it will orbit for several days before returning to Earth.
