The EU agreed on legislation to require a universal charging port on all smartphones sold in the EU by fall 2024. Apple, which uses the lightning port on iPhones, has previously spoken against the legislation. Consumers can save up to 250 million euros a year from buying chargers under the law, according to the EU.

Apple's press release and preview page say that the OS will support "iPhone 8 and later." That means that the new update won't be compatible with phones using Apple A9 or A10 chips, including the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus, the first-gen iPhone SE, and the seventh-generation iPod Touch.

애플이 WWDC 2022 행사를 통해 모바일 운영체제인 iOS 16과 아이패드OS 16, 워치OS 9을 공개했다. 모두 새로운 애플 실리콘을 활용한 성능 향상은 물론 사용자 편의성, 호환성이 강화됐다. 정식 버전은 오는 가을 아이폰14 등 신제품 출시와 함께 제공될 예정이다.

애플이 WWDC 2022 행사를 통해 새로운 M2 칩셋과 이를 탑재한 신형 맥북에어, 13인치 맥북프로를 공개했다. 2세대 5나노 공정 기반의 M2 칩셋은 기존 M1 칩셋의 성능과 효율성을 한층 끌어올렸다. 맥북에어는 M2 칩셋과 함께 새로운 디자인을 적용했다. 맥북프로 13인치는 기존 디자인에 성능을 끌어올렸다. 두 제품 모두 엔트리 모델인 만큼 비교적 저렴한 가격에 출시됐다.
