이탈리아, '인텔' 반도체 투자 확대 추진

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Thursday she would request a meeting with representatives of Intel to discuss a possible multibillion-euro investment by the U.S. chipmaker in Italy. Intel earlier this year announced it aimed to build a chip factory in the country as part of a wider plan to invest as much as 80 billion euros ($85.15 billion) over the next decade in building capacity across Europe. The deal, which is expected to involve state subsidies, has not yen been finalised.

Intel Corp has backed away from its original target of opening a chip factory in the eastern German city of Magdeburg in the first half of 2023, regional newspaper Volksstimme reported, saying the semiconductor giant wanted more public subsidies.

Intel is planning to cut thousands of jobs, according to a report. The company is expected to announce the layoffs around the time it releases its third quarter earnings report on October 27th. The layoffs could reduce the costs Intel incurs by around 10 to 15 percent. Intel recently slashed its sales and profit forecasts for 2022.

Intel is gearing up to release the first products in its 13th-generation Core processor family, codenamed Raptor Lake. Among the topline facts that the company announced at its Intel Technology Tour is that at least one member of the Raptor Lake family will be capable of hitting 6 GHz out of the box (via Tom's Hardware). Core counts and architectural improvements are generally more important than clock speed when it comes to increasing a CPU's performance these days, but after many years hanging out in the 5 GHz range, it's neat to hit the next digit.

Intel will start preorder campaign for its flagship Core i9 series immediately, to be followed by Core i7 and Core i5 series two weeks later. None of those CPUs will become available until October 20th, so almost a month after AMD officially launches its 7000 series. When it comes to Z790 motherboards, one should also expect the sale embargo to lift on the same day all three Core series become available.

Intel launches three new Arc Pro graphics cards for workstations. The new models have ray tracing and machine learning capabilities. They will be available later this year from mobile and desktop partners. Intel has yet to reveal how much these new discrete cards will cost, but they will cost around $200.
