스마트폰 스크린의 흠집을 스스로 수리하는 ‘자가수리’ 기술이 개발되면서, 해당 기술이 빠른 미래 공개될 것이라는 분석이 나왔다. 애플도 손상되면 스스로 고치는 디스플레이 커버를 갖춘 폴더블 아이폰에 대한 특허를 확보하면서 자가수리 스마트폰에 대한 기대가 높아지고 있다.

Apple is expanding Self Service Repair to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks with M1 chips, the company announced Monday. Apple parts and tools can be purchased by U.S. customers on Tuesday, August 23. The move is an expansion of Self Repair Service for the iPhone which Apple launched earlier this year.

Samsung launches self-repair program for Galaxy S20, S21 and Tab S7+ devices. You can buy official parts and tools to fix your device for $67 to $227. The company is keen to point users toward regular repair providers, not DIY repair services.

Apple's Self Service Repair program is now available in the US. If you have an iPhone 12, iPhone 13 or third-generation iPhone SE, you can buy key parts (such as batteries, cameras and displays) from a dedicated store and consult official repair manuals as you fix a device yourself. You can even spend $49 to rent a toolkit for a week if you'd rather not buy tools you're unlikely to use often. The program will expand to other countries later this year, starting with Europe.
