영화 '백투더퓨처'에 등장했던 타임머신 카 '드로리안'(delorean)이 드디어 전기차로 부활한다. 알파 5 전기차는 듀얼 전기모터와 100kWh 대용량 배터리를 탑재해 최대 482km의 주행거리를 제공한다. 최고속도는 250km에 이르는 4륜구동 4인승 스포츠 전기차로 알려졌다.

U.S. efforts to build a national network of electric vehicle charging stations are moving slowly as states figure out how to fairly dole out public funding to kick-start a new service industry. As the Biden administration prepares to give states $7.5 billion for new charging stations, a similar recent effort suggests a difficult path is ahead. States received $424 million that could be used for charging stations as part of a $2.8 billion settlement by Volkswagen to resolve allegations that it cheated on diesel emissions tests. So far, more than four years later, they have spent about 48% of those charging dollars.

The Japanese conglomerate flagged its intention to accelerate a push into the auto industry in 2020 when it unveiled a prototype EV called the Vision-S. This year, it has launched an EV division and announced a joint venture with Honda to make cars. Sony has now said it aims to provide the sensors crucial to EVs and autonomous vehicles, Sony expects to supply imaging sensors to 15 of the world’s top 20 global automakers by 2025, underscoring the company’s ambitions for electric vehicles and autonomous driving as it tries to diversify beyond mobile phones.

Lucid has issued a recall for the 2022 Air due to potential issues stemming from the car's wiring harness. Unsecured wires on 2022 Air vehicles could cause the car’s displays to turn off. This would present a hazard in violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The notice states that the potential number of affected vehicles is 1,117.

Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday, Herbert Diess said alleviating supply chain issues would likely help create some momentum for the German auto giant over the coming months. “Markets are always about the future,” Diess said when asked why investors valued Tesla at such a premium to other traditional carmakers. “We are still aiming at keeping up and probably overtaking by 2025 when it comes to sales,” Diess said.

Polestar has announced its investment in Israeli battery manufacturer StoreDot. The company has developed a new type of battery that can be charged in just two minutes. It expects its batteries to deliver 160km of charge in five minutes by 2024, three minutes by 2028, and a mere two minutes by 2030.

Nissan revealed its most affordable EV to date. The so-called Sakura is a cute electric minicar with a base price of just under $14,000 (2,333,100 yen). Destined for the Japanese market, where Kei city-driving cars are popular, the Sakura comes with some pretty top-notch features for its category. Powered by a 20kW lithium-ion battery, the EV has a top speed of 130km/h and enough juice for 180km of range — just 60km less than the Nissan Leaf.

The design for Renault’s Scenic Vision incorporates a hydrogen engine, electric motor, battery, fuel cell and a hydrogen tank. The 2.5 kilogram tank is located at the vehicle’s front. Renault says it will take around five minutes to fill. French carmaker says the Scenic Vision’s 40 kilowatt hour battery is recyclable and will be produced at a facility in France by 2024.
