현대자동차, 전기차 충전 인프라 고민 총족... '무료 충전기' 제공

For a limited time, Hyundai is offering a free EV charger and a discounted installation fee of $600. The deal will be available on select models through October 31. Electric cars are an attractive option because they offer a better driving experience and don't require gas money, other costs and procedures still stand in the way. Hyundai is looking to minimize these negatives with a new event that offers free chargers and up to $600 off installation. Hyundai's ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV charger normally costs $549, for a total savings of $1,100.

Goldman Sachs lowered its earnings forecast for Tesla, saying the electric car company's price cuts could hurt earnings per share (EPS). "We believe Tesla could further reduce prices to support higher volumes in 2024, which would mitigate EPS benefits from cost reductions," said Goldman Sachs analyst Mark Delaney. Goldman Sach's Mark Delaney forecast that Tesla will report earnings of $2.90 and $4.15 per share for the remainder of 2023 and 2024, down from $3.00 and $4.25, respectively. Delaney attributed the downward earnings revisions to Tesla's goal of increasing production. He said the increase in production will hurt gross margins before taking into account state incentives and tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Tesla plunged 3.32% after Goldman Sachs' warning.

Volkswagen's ID lineup is pretty well fleshed out by now, with vehicles ranging from the ID.2all compact to the ID.4 crossover — but where are the enthusiast vehicles? VW has answered that question with the ID.GTI concept, an electric hot hatch that will eventually head to production. Much like original GTI that inspired it (the "I" no longer stands for injection but "intelligence"), it's a sporty, compact hatch that looks fast standing still. Size-wise, it's shorter but taller than the current Golf GTI, with slightly more interior volume. The ID.GTI is based on (and strongly resembles) the ID.2all compact, adding features like 20-inch wheels, front, side and rear spoilers, a rear diffuser, a honeycomb grill, striped graphics, LED fog lights and more.

Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast surpassed the valuations of legacy US carmakers Ford and General Motors (GM) on its debut trading day on Nasdaq. VinFast introduced its first two gasoline-powered car models at the Paris Motor Show in 2018 and has been producing and exporting EVs in Vietnam since 2021.

테슬라의 NACS 기반 북미 충전규격 통일 야망이 장애물과 복병을 만났다. 충전파워가 약한 NACS의 단점이 경쟁진영인 복합충전시스템(Combined Charging System·CCS) 진영의 전기차 제조업체들을 달래고 끌어들이는 데 장애물로 작용하고 있다. 이런 가운데 테슬라 진영 합류를 선언했던 GM이 지난달 26일 CCS 진영 총 7개 자동차업체(BMW, 메르세데스-벤츠, 현대, 기아, 혼다,스텔란티스)와 함께 를 결집하며 고출력 충전네트워크(High-Powered Charging Network)를 결성하고 북미충전소 늘리기에 나선다고 공식 발표하기에 이르렀다.

When we talk about electric cars, we tend to think of range anxiety as the biggest controversy. But when it comes to EVs, charging is probably the biggest complaint. It's easy to see why Ford shared Tesla's charging stations. However, the other seven automakers are trying to solve the charging infrastructure problem themselves. They've announced new charging networks that could compete with and overtake Tesla's Supercharger network, but it will be a year before the first stations are up and running.

테슬라의 슈퍼차저는 전 세계에 4만 대가 설치돼 있는데 빠르고 안정적인 것으로 평가받지만 테슬라 차량 전용이기에 폭스바겐이나 포드, 쉐보레(GM) 등 경쟁사 차량은 이용할 수 없었다. 그런데 지난해 11월 테슬라는 자체 급속 충전소인 ‘슈퍼차저’를 경쟁사 전기차에도 개방한다고 발표하고 이를 실행에 옮기기 시작했다. 지난 2021년 일론 머스크 테슬라 CEO가 “슈퍼차저 네트워크를 올해부터 다른 전기차에 개방하겠다”고 약속했지만 유럽과 호주 등지에서였고 그간 미국에서는 예외였다.

글로벌 전기차 배터리 산업의 떠오르는 스타는 말할 것도 없이 세계 공급 1위업체인 중국 CATL이다. CATL은 전세계 자동차 업체들이 진출해 외국 자동차업체의 수요처로만 알려졌던 중국시장에 서 영향력을 높여가더니 마침내 중국은 물론 세계 전기차와 전기차 배터리 산업계를 움직이고 있다. 놀랍게도 CATL이 세계 1위가 되기까지 10년 밖에 걸리지 않았다.
