New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a law banning certain bitcoin mining operations that run on carbon-based power sources. For the next two years, unless a proof-of-work mining company uses 100% renewable energy, it will not be allowed to expand or renew permits.

The company addressed "multiple setbacks and disappointments" getting in the way of its ultimate mission to "make mining easy and accessible," in a statement on Tuesday. Compass has appointed chief technology officer Paul Gosker and chief mining officer Thomas Heller as interim co-presidents and CEOs.

미국 뉴욕주 의회가 암호화폐 비트코인 채굴을 금지하는 법안을 통과시켰다. 비트코인 등 작업증명(PoW) 방식의 암호화폐 채굴 산업이 불필요한 에너지 소모를 발생시키는 산업이라는 비판에 따른 조치다. 법안이 시행되면 뉴욕주는 블록체인 기술 인프라를 금지하는 미국 최초의 주가 된다.

Fort Worth, Texas is getting into the bitcoin mining business, in a push to present the city as a leader in crypto. Council members unanimously voted in favor of a resolution on Tuesday to accept a donation of three Bitmain Antminer S9 bitcoin mining machines worth $2,100 from the Texas Blockchain Council. “These small but powerful machines mark Fort Worth’s larger commitment to becoming a leading hub for technology and innovation,” said Mayor Mattie Parker, who spearheaded the project.
