Amazon Web Services has confirmed that it has been hit by a new type of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that flooded websites and applications with more than 155 million requests per second. "It could have been business disruptive, but thanks to the hard work of AWS engineers, customers were quickly protected from this new attack," Selipsky said. In late August, Selipsky said AWS security teams discovered a new type of HTTP request flood targeting customers, and the DDoS attack was designed to make websites and applications unavailable to users.

Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President of Data and AI at AWS, participated in an event organized by the State Department in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly and hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. on how generative AI can help address some of our greatest societal challenges, particularly the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). When the SDGs came into effect in 2016, a set of 17 global shared goals to achieve a "better and more sustainable future for all," AI didn't exist, generative AI was still a long way off, and no one was talking about the role it could play in achieving them. Now, as we approach 2030 (the target year for achieving the SDGs), more and more governments and organizations are looking to AI to help with everything from disaster preparedness to early detection and detection of disease, bridging language barriers, and improving education for more people.
