OpenAI is set to open its first Asian office in Tokyo, Japan, as reported by Nikkei Asia. The office will hire local talent to provide customer support for companies using OpenAI's technology. Last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, expressing interest in the region. Singapore's Temasek Holdings is reportedly in early talks to invest in OpenAI, while Altman is also in discussions with the UAE government to raise funds for AI chip development. Meanwhile, ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, is actively hiring over 100 roles related to generative AI, with around 40 positions based in Singapore focused on large language models.
