Google is set to fully integrate its AI system “Gemini” into the Chrome web browser, in what is being described as the biggest upgrade in Chrome’s history. The rollout will begin with Mac and Windows desktops in the United States, before expanding to Android and iOS. According to the company, Gemini will enhance intuitive web navigation, simplify complex tasks, and strengthen security. Gemini can understand the context of user activity across multiple tabs, answer questions, and connect with services such as Google Docs and Calendar. It will also support features like content summarization, reference searches, and tracking previously visited pages. In addition, Google is introducing “agentic AI” to automate multistep tasks such as ordering groceries and booking hair appointments. Chrome’s address bar will also gain a new “AI Mode,” allowing users to ask complex questions and engage in follow-up queries. On the security side, Google will leverage Gemini Nano to block phishing attempts, fake virus alerts, and fraudulent giveaway sites, while also enabling automated password updates on supported platforms.
