Rivian has begun selling its electric vans to commercial customers following the end of its exclusive contract with Amazon. In 2019, Rivian signed a contract with Amazon to supply 100,000 electric delivery vans, but the agreement was terminated early in November 2023, with only about 20,000 vans delivered. Since then, Rivian has been expanding sales to new commercial customers. Rivian's electric vans are available for purchase by any company with a commercial fleet, with orders ranging from a single van to thousands. Individual consumers cannot purchase these vans, and the vehicles must be registered for business use. Two models are available: the RCV 500 starting at $82,900, and the RCV 700 starting at $83,900. After the end of its exclusive contract with Amazon, Rivian conducted trial runs with large companies like AT&T to validate the vans' performance. A Rivian representative stated, "We have achieved positive results through large-scale vehicle testing, and we are now expanding sales to commercial vehicle customers of all sizes". In the electric van market, Ford has shown success with its E-Transit van, selling 12,610 units in 2024, a 64% increase from the previous year. Mercedes-Benz has also launched its eSprinter van. Rivian aims to improve its financial position through this sales expansion and plans to strengthen long-term profitability through in-van software subscription services and other offerings.
